Who May Screen?

§37.29. Standards for Screening Tests and Screener Training Courses in Vision and Hearing
(c) Individuals who have completed high school and who have successfully completed the department's vision or hearing screening course are eligible to be certified as screeners.

Sample Resource District Letters for Vision and Hearing

The requirements for VISION and HEARING SCREENING apply each year for children enrolled in any licensed child-care facility or school program at the ages or grades below:
 
WHO MUST BE SCREENED WHEN SCREENING MUST BE DONE

4 year olds
Kindergartners
Any other first-time entrants (4 years through 12th grade)

Within 120 days of admission

1st, 3rd, 5th, 7th Graders
Anytime within the school year (preferably within first semester)
Although not required by Chapter 36, Texas Department of Protective and Regulatory Services licensed child-care facilities are encouraged to screen all children younger than 4 years of age who can reliably respond to the screening tests outlined in the Texas Department of Health's vision and hearing screening protocols.
 

 

Reminder to bring your previous certification card Re-certification for Vision and Hearing.

Please be advised that if an individual does not attend a recertification vision or hearing training prior to December 31st of their 5th year of being certified they must attend the basic all day workshop/s.
For example, if anniversary date for certificate is July 2008, the certificate expires December 31st of the expiration year (2013), NOT the 5 year anniversary of taking the class.

If your card has expired (5 years), you will need to take the complete course over.
