The Youth Suicide Prevention School-Based Guide from South Florida University
School Based Youth Suicide Prevention Order Form
"The Youth Suicide Prevention School-Based Guide is designed to provide accurate, user-friendly information. The Guide is not a program but a tool that provides a framework for schools to assess their existing or proposed suicide prevention efforts (through a series of checklists) and provides resources and information that school administrators can use to enhance or add to their existing program."
For More Information regarding Guide, contact Steve Roggenbaum (e-mail)

Online Training Tools
Online video: Perspectives: Addressing Suicide Issues for Children and Youth in Foster Care, was created by USF’s Florida's Center for the Advancement of Child Welfare Practice. A short 22 minute video with a suicide expert, foster parent, and a teen discussing suicide prevention, warning signs, and safety planning.
Online Learning in Children's Mental Health A recent presentation of mine to Florida’s National Alliance on Mental Illness, Warning Signs of Children and Adolescents at Risk for Suicide was video taped and is being uploaded as a free “public access”
Online Suicide Prevention Training program was designed with involuntary assessment staff (in Florida they are called Baker Act facility staff) as the major audience, however a number of the modules have applicability to a more general population.
Suicide prevention training modules cover the following topics:
- Background with statistics and definitions,
- Risk Factors,
- Warning Signs,
- Protective Factors,
- Safety Planning,
- Environmental Safety Factors,
- Risk Assessment, and
- five vignettes to help the learner interact with and integrate the information presented.
- A quiz is presented to assist with a review of the material and a list of resources is presented for further exploration of suicide and suicide prevention. The Suicide Prevention Training program is a great orientation to the topic and can be experienced in about an hour. A certificate of completion is available and arrangements can also be made for obtaining continuing education credit.
Existing users just log in and can navigate to the new course. New users just need to register and can navigate to the course once they are sent their ID and password.
