Mr. Gerik has been involved in education for 37 years. He has been a school administrator in Region 12 for the past 24 years. He served 8 of those years having been the Superintendent at Mount Calm ISD. He has also served 17 years as a principal and athletic director at West ISD , 8 years as a teacher and coach at Mesquite ISD in Region 10 and 4 years as a teacher and coach at San Antonio Northside in Region 20.

He is currently the President of TREA (Texas Rural Education Association). Mr. Gerik represented Texas as a member of the NREAC ( National Rural Education Advocacy Coalition) this past February in Washington D.C.  NREAC was an active participant in the first national rural caucuses held by the United States Congress. TREAC was also an information agent for the National Stimulus Program, and also had initial input on the reauthorization of the ESEA ( Elementary and Secondary Education Act)  for the 2010 fiscal year.
