Access to the General Curriculum
The Access to General Curriculum Network, of which
Region 12 is a member, develops a framework for statewide collaboration
through a comprehensive planning process. Priorities in professional
development and technical assistance focus on ensuring that all
students with disabilities will gain access to and show progress
in the general curriculum through curricular/instructional adaptations
in the least restrictive environment. Key elements may include
training and technical assistance in:
- the provision of special education services in mainstream settings,
- effective strategies to increase the likelihood that students with disabilities
are receiving on-grade level instruction in the TEKS,
- writing meaningful standards-based IEPs, and
- the implementation of inclusionary practices, such as collaborative teaching models and strategies.
The following are some of the resources housed at ESC Region 20, the statewide leadership for Access to the General Curriculum:
Standards-Based IEP Question and Answer Document
Standards-Based IEP On-Line Training Module. This 1 1/2 - 2 hour on-line training module is appropriate for special educators, general educators, and parents.
